Ladderback Jacquard for Stranded Knitting

September 14, 2025, 10:00am - 1:00pm

Cost: $80

Easy, seamless, and beautiful, the ladderback jacquard technique will improve the tension of your stranded knitting while allowing you to span much larger areas between stitches. This knitting method adds stretch to the floats while preventing the alternate color from peeking through, and can be applied to nearly any stranded knitting project. Once you add this technique to your knitting toolbox, you may never want to go back to any other method of carrying floats.

Whether you're interested in tweaking patterns or developing your own colorwork designs, incorporating this technique means you can work without limits on the space between alternating motifs.

In class we'll learn several different options for setting up and resolving ladders and explore best practices for placement and charting, so you can envision how to bring this technique into your real-life knitting applications.

Advanced:  Students should already be comfortable working stranded knitting and should know how to increase, decrease, and work at a small circumference in the round.

Homework: With the lighter yarn, cast on 40 stitches and join to work in the round. With the same color, knit 3 rounds of stockinette stitch.

Supplies: Smooth, worsted weight yarn in two contrasting colors and your choice of needles in a compatible size (US #7-9) suitable for working a very small-circumference project in the round  (dpns, magic loop, or two circulars).

Intro to Brioche: Two-Color Brioche in the Round

October 19, 2025, 10:00am - 1:00pm

Cost: $80

Unlock the secrets of squishy, captivating brioche knitting! Working brioche in the round is easier than flat, and two colors are easier to keep track of than one. You’ll learn the magic of working this fun and fluffy stitch as you begin to work the Bri-Licious Cowl in class (you not finish the cowl during the class time, but will know everything you need to know in order to finish on your own). This class is suitable for first-time brioche knitters and the pattern will be supplied in class.

Materials: 120 yards each of a dark and a light-colored worsted-weight yarn, 16" circular needle in the size you usually use for worsted weight yarn, stitch marker

Using long-tail cast-on, loosely cast on either 60 (for a headband) or 80 stitches (for a cowl) with the dark yarn and join to work in the round. Knit one round, knitting every stitch. Knit a second round in K1 P1 ribbing.

Intermediate: Students should know how to cast on, bind off, knit, purl, YO and slip stitches.

Better Fitting Knitting

November 2, 2025, 9:00am - 4:00pm

Cost: $170

What do the knitting pros know that you don't about sweater size and fit? In this class we'll get into the knitty-gritty of why your sweaters so often don't fit, and provide the knowledge and tools that will allow you to make sweaters that fit every time.

We'll work step-by-step through the planning stages of sweater knitting, from yarn choice, better body measurement, and choosing the right size, to how and where to make adjustments for differences in gauge or differences in sizing and shaping. You'll learn how to analyze the size of a pattern when it doesn't give schematics, how different arm/shoulder constructions affect fit, and how to change just about anything that's not working for you in a pattern.
